Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at Bancourt on the 1st September. After his platoon commander had been wounded he took charge of the platoon and gallantly led them against a strongly held position capturing it with several machine guns and prisoners. He set a splendid example and displayed great initiative. This NCO has a splendid record for coolness under fire.'
