The enemy was reported to be advancing along the road, and he at once, on his own initiative, brought his platoon across the road and organised its defence. He showed great skill in handling his platoon, and his resource and courage inspired his men with confidence.'

'Operations Gravenstafel, 1st October to 5th October 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the night 1st/2nd October 1917, in the Sector east of Ypres, Sergeant W.P. Morrin was in command of a Battalion Carrying Party which was taking rations and ammunition forward to the Front line. En route the Party ran into an enemy barrage and Sergeant Morrin showed great gallantry and resource in handling his party and getting them through the barrage, which he did successfully, quite regardless of personal danger, with the result that both ammunition and rations were delivered right forward to the advanced shell hole posts. This Non Commissioned Officer always sets his men a splendid example of cheeriness under the most adverse conditions.'
