Military Cross 'He was in command of the centre company in an attack, and he led his men with gallantry, skill, and cool judgement, which brought them forward, in face of heavy fire and over difficult ground, to their objective. The efficient manner in which he handled his command when his junior officers and many NCOs were casualties greatly helped the success of the operation, and his example was splendid.'
