Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion in the field. This NCO was section commander of a Lewis gun section during the attack on the 4th October, east of St
Julien. He handled his section excellently during the advance and subsequently. He reorganised various scattered sections and did excellent and hard work in the consolidation. He was cool and level headed throughout the operation and handled his men in such a manner as showed that he was possessed of initiative fine leadership and command and splendid courage.'
