Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty. Near Gravenstafel on 4th October, when his platoon Commander and all the senior NCOs had been casualties, he assumed command of his platoon and directed its efforts with great skill. Though occupying an exposed position in the face of an active enemy, he held it with the utmost courage, setting a fine example and inspiring the greatest confidence in his men.'
