Mentioned in Despatches

'For gallantry and great devotion to duty during the period 22nd September, 1917, to 24th February 1918 and especially during the operations at Gravenstafel on 4th/5th October, 1917, and in front of Belle Vue Spur, west of Passchendaele, on 12th October 1917. This Officer had charge of the medical surgical and ration supplies for the forward posts, during the above mentioned operations. By his devotion to duty and carelessness of his own safety he kept the forward posts well supplied with all the necessaries for the evacuation and care of the wounded, especially so during the operations at Belle Vue Spur, when time after time he personally brought water and rations up to the forward posts although the road and tracks were heavily shelled day and night and men were being killed all round him. By his coolness under the most trying conditions he was responsible for wounded reaching the Dressing Station alive and in a warm condition, and for the stretcher bearers being properly supplied with rations and hot meals during their heavy work. He has always done work of a high order in all our engagements.'
