Croix de Guerre (Belgium) 'In action before Bapaume on 25th September 1918 and on subsequent days. As NCO in charge of main Forward Bearer Posts he maintained, in spite of heavy hostile shell fire, a continuous service of stretcher bearer squads, thus contributed in a large measure to the speedy evacuation of wounded. When a Bearer Relay Post was destroyed by enemy shell, causing severe casualties amongst the personnel working at the post, he immediately went forward and removed his wounded comrades, and in spite of the continued hostile shelling, quickly re-established the post. He has shown a splendid example of gallantry and strict
devotion to duty.'
