Military Medal 'Messines Offensive: 7th to 9th June 1917. For great gallantry and devotion to duty. On 7th June 1917 when the telephone wire between Brigade Forward Station near Messines and 1st Battalion Auckland Regiment in the "Black" Line was out, he carried despatches between these two stations, through heavy shell fire and occasional machine gun Fire. Never once did he fail to deliver his despatches even under these most trying circumstances.'
