Military Medal 'East of Ypres on the 4th October 1917 this soldier displayed a most extraordinary bravery and devotion to duty. When the advance was held up by machine gun fire he rushed forward by himself to discover the position of the gun, and finding it in a shell hole, he rushed forward with bombs and single handed captured the occupants and took the gun. During the operations his cool bravery and devotion to duty were a magnificent example to others.'
