Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 29th September 1918 near Crevecoeur he took his machine gun forward under very heavy shell and machine gun fire, got into action overlooking the Canal de L'Escaut and engaged enemy horse transport, motor lorries, motor cars, a tractor withdrawing a large gun, and kept down the fire field guns which were firing point blank on our patrols. As a result of this fire the enemy were forced to abandon a limber, one lorry and a motor car which were afterwards captured. He was continuously being harassed by shell and machine gun fire but throughout the day kept cool and collected giving great encouragement to the rest of his gun team, and by his very fine work saved many casualties to our own infantry.'
