Military Medal 'On the night of 21st/22nd August 1917 near Le Bizet, North of Armentieres. During general hostile bombardment of the locality the left section of his Battery (which is detached) was heavily shelled with gas and high explosive. There was no officer available for this Section at the time, and despite broken communications; Sergeant McRae assumed Command, and kept the Section in vigorous action
against known enemy batteries, which were eventually silenced. His initiative and control was of material assistance.'
