Military Medal 'At Messines during 7th, 8th and 9th June 1917, this man was a stretcher bearer, was working with a Company which held very exposed trenches. He showed the greatest gallantry and contempt of danger in the face of the hottest shell fire, and was unceasing in his efforts to get in the wounded and attend to them. He did especially fine work under heavy fire on the night of 8/9th June. His previous record in action is equally good.'
