Bar to Military Medal 'Operations opposite Polderhoek 27th November to 5th December 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At the assault on the Bolderhoek Chateau on 3rd December Sergeant McLeod, his Officer being killed early in the engagement, took command of the 4 Mortars and showed exceptional coolness, daring and initiative in working his Mortars to the best advantage. He kept in close touch with Infantry Commanders and was of great assistance to them throughout the engagement and the subsequent consolidation.'
Source: London Gazette Date: Military Medal 'Messines Offensive: 7th to 9th June 1917. This NCO was with the mortars detailed for the capture of Au Bon Fermier Cabarat and when his officer (Lieut D.V. Walls) was wounded, he took command of the two mortars, mounting the mortars in the Red Line. He also fired on the machine gun in October Support before the troops on the left advanced to that position. He proved a very cool and reliable NCO.'
