Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty in the Field on June 7th 1917 during the attack on Messines. This NCO repeatedly took bearer squads out to the regimental aid posts in spite of a heavy barrage of artillery fire. By his coolness he brought in a considerable number of wounded who were lying exposed to the enemy's fire. This work he continued for 24 hours till exhausted. He was a magnificent example to his
men and had already performed meritorious service in Gallipoli and the Somme operations.'
