Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 8th October 1918, near Crevecouer. Corporal McLean was in charge of a Lewis gun Section during the attack on the 8th October, when approaching the final objective, fire from Field Guns was encountered at point blank range and our attack was in danger of being held up. At this stage Corporal McLean, showing great initiative and gallantry, skillfully led his section forward in face of this fire and so dispersed them that they succeeded in silencing the enemy Field Guns. He then established the section in the position vacated by the enemy Gunners. This enabled the remainder of the Company to establish their line of outposts. Corporal McLean then withdrew to conform with main outpost, line of which he had been well in advance.'
