Meritorious Service Medal 'On the 25th October, 1917 at Passchendaele, when working on a gun which had been put out of action by enemy fire, the battery was subjected to heavy shelling. Disregarding this, he worked at his gun and succeeded in completing same just in time for barrage work. His cool courage set a splendid example.'

great coolness and disregard of personal safety went from one to the other and very quickly got them into action again. It was owing to the skill, coolness, and gallantry of this Fitter that the Battery was able to keep its guns in action and fire the barrage with all six.'
