Military Medal 'During the operations between 25th August, east of Bapaume and 2nd September at Mill Cross east of Fremicourt he was No 1 of the Lewis gun Team. Private McLean showed great initiative and gallantry in pushing forward his gun when his platoon was temporarily held up and putting enemy machine guns out of action, thereby assisting the advance of his own platoon and enabling his Company to press forward on the heels of the enemy. His good example and coolness in a dangerous and difficult situation was of the utmost service to the men of his platoon. His
gallant action materially assisted to the success of the operation.'
