Military Medal 'In the attack on the Gravenstafel Ridge position on the 4th, October, Lance Cpl McKenzie was NCO in charge party laying lines from cable head to 1st New Zealand Infantry Brigade forward station. He laid the lines through in capital time and then worked untiringly on repair work. It was impossible to keep the line working through the barrage till it eased off at 3.00pm on the 4th when 30 breaks were mended and the line kept through practically continuously from that hour. L/Cpl McKenzie set a very fine example to his party.'
