Military Medal 'Conspicuous gallantry on 23rd June 1916, at Hobb's Farm, when at 7.30am, cries for help were heard coming from "no man?s land". It was found that a wounded sniper was lying out there. Private McKendry immediately volunteered to go out over the parapet and bring him in. This he did successfully without any assistance. There was a great deal of risk attached to his going over the parapet in broad daylight in full view of the enemy's trenches, 125 yds away, that particular locality being subject continuously to machine gun and snipers fire.'
