Military Medal 'At Gravenstafel east of Ypres. On the night of October 3rd and 4th, just previous to the attack, the dugout, in which were Pte McIntyre and three of his mates, was blown in by a shell and all four were buried. Pte McIntyre managed to extricate himself, and although badly shaken, and despite the fact that the enemy shell fire was very severe and many of our own shells were falling near him he set to work
unaided and succeeded in rescuing his comrades. He set a fine example of self sacrifice.'
