Proceeded overseas to France, 9 December 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 5 January 1917, and posted to 4th Company.

Wounded in action, 7 June 1917 (gun shot wound, face), and admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance; discharged to duty per Stragglers' Post, 8 June 1917; rejoined Bn, 12 June 1917.

Admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 25 June 1917 (pyrexia, unknown origin); transferred to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 29 June 1917; rejoined Bn, 8 July 1917.

Killed in action, 12 October 1917.
