Embarked Wellington, 30 December 1916; disembarked Devoport, England, 3 March 1917, and marched in to Sling Camp.

Proceeded overseas to France, 28 May 1917; joined 3rd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 24 February 1918, and posted to D Company.

Wounded in action, 28 March 1918 (concussion, shell), and admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital; to No 9 General Hospital, Rouen, 30 March 1918 (neurasthenia); to England, 28 April 1918, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 29 April 1918.

Listed as illegally absent, 21 January 1919, and discharged as a deserter.

Total war service: 2 years 151 days (of which 2 years 23 days were abroad)

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
