'Operations east of Cambrai, 13 October to 11 November 1918. For gallantry in action on the 7th November near Autreppe this NCO led his patrol with cool courage and determination. His orders were to patrol a wood and get in touch with the enemy, in doing so was continually under a hot fire from machine guns and snipers but at personal risk penetrated 1,000 yards beyond the front line for purpose of gaining information from civilians living in a house. Got in touch with the enemy and fought a brief action but obtained the required information and executed the patrol skillfully. Throughout the recent operations, this NCO has led many patrols and has always carried out his tasks admirably and obtained information of much value.'
