Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on Bancourt on the 30th August. His platoon officer was wounded early in the attack, and he took charge leading the platoon and capturing objectives. He did very useful work under trying conditions showing great coolness and energy and decision.'
