Military Medal 'Operations on Welsh and Bon Avis Ridges, 28th September to 1st October 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the advance, a hostile machine gun which had not been mopped up opened fire on the Company from the rear. This man, with another, volunteered to go back and mop it up. Although his mate was wounded he secured the gun and captured two prisoners. While returning with the prisoners to his Company he came on another machine gun which opened fire on him. He immediately bombed the crew of this gun and captured it with another three prisoners. He showed great courage and grit during the whole of the operations.'
