Wounded in action, 25 September 1916 (gun shot wound, left hand: blown up by a shell; landed on hand which bent under him); admitted to 15th Corps Collecting Station, 28 September 1916; transferred same day to 5th General Hospital, Rouen; to England, 30 September 1916, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 3 October 1916; attached to NZ Command Depot, Codford, 14 October 1916.

Admitted to No 3 NZ General Hospital, Codford, 3 February 1917; marched in to NZ Command Depot, Codford, 9 February 1917.

Admitted to No 3 NZ General Hospital, 11 February 1917 (scabies); discharged to Headquarters, 14 March 1917.

Found guilty, Codford, 20 March 1917, of being absent without leave, 11 pm, 14 March, to 8.30 pm, 17 March 1917; Forfeited 4 days' pay, and loss of 4 days' pay under Royal Warrant.
