Military Medal 'Action in front of Serre, 27th March to 5th April 1918, and particularly on 5th April 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Driver McDevitt was driving a Motor Ambulance in the Colincamps Road during these operations. On the
morning of the 5th April 1917, a High explosive shell burst alongside his car while he was evacuating wounded. All his tyres were punctured, and the car riddled with fragments of shell. In spite of heavy shelling, he stayed by his car, putting it into
running order, and continued to run his car throughout the day.'
