Military Medal 'At south of Messines on the evening of the 25th August. The Battery Position was subjected to a heavy bombardment, and one gun pit sustained a direct hit, causing the ammunition, and wood work and sand bags inside the pit to catch fire. This NCO together with Corporal Watson at great personal risk entered the burning pit, in which a quantity of ammunition was stored, and extinguished the fire.'
