Embarked Wellington, 21 November 1917. Disembarked Liverpool, England, entrained for Sling Camp and taken on strength 4th (Reserve) Battalion, The Otago Infantry Regiment, 8 January 1918. Reverts to rank of private, 8 January 1918.

Marched out of Sling Camp and proceeded overseas to France, 20 March 1918. Marched in to New Zealand Infantry and General Base Depot, Etaples, France, 24 March 1918; taken on strength, 2nd New Zealand Entrenching Battalion, in the field, 28 March 1918.
