War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked Egypt to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 20 May 1915. Wounded in action, 6-7 August 1915; transferred to England on board HS 'Aquitania', and disembarked Southampton, 23 August 1915 (dysentery). Returned to Egypt (date not recorded); transferred to 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, Ismailia, 11 March 1916, and posted to 4th Company. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 9 April 1916. Appointed Cook, Armentieres, 7 May 1916. Found guilty by Field General Court Martial, 24 March 1917, of being in possession of a document purporting to be a genuine pass, well knowing it was not genuine: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2. Relinquished appointment of Cook, 11 June 1917. Killed in action, 12 October 1917. Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal |
