Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty during attack on Messines Ridge on June 7th 1917. This man took his stretcher squad repeatedly through heavy shellfire to the advance Regimental Aid Posts bringing back many wounded men. He worked without ceasing for 24 hours and although tired out he guided out a fresh bearer squad to bring in a wounded man under heavy fire whom he knew was laying in a shell hole. He has previously done magnificent work at the Somme. Forwarded and recommended.'
