Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At Crevecoeur on 30th September 1918 he was a Battalion runner. His task was often most dangerous as the road to one Company was swept by machine gun fire and to another he had to cross bridges that were under observation and constantly fired on. In the fighting of the previous day his work was of a most arduous nature, all the runners being kept constantly at work for forty eight hours with hardly any sleep. He showed great courage and resource and was untiring in his work.'
