Medaille Militaire (France) 'At Switch Trench, near Flers on three distinct occasions during the afternoon of 15th September 1916, Cpl Mascall was detailed to take wounded men through a very heavy barrage fire to the A.D.S. He did this successfully three times, returning to his post immediately, having to repass through the heavy barrage on each journey. He then worked all night with his party constructing a strongpoint and because two out of three of his NCOs had been wounded, he remained there all next day with another working party in order that the work might be completed. His conduct throughout this and other operations under heavy fire was an example to all under him.'
