Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and resourcefulness on 14th October 1917 near St Julien. This NCO made three successive trips, each time with a gun, over a mile of the worst possible road with regards mud and shell fire. He experienced innumerable blocks and directed the extricating of his guns from shell holes and repairing of the road under heavy fire, in a manner beyond praise. This work occupied the whole of a day. To his untiring labour, coolness and splendid example to his teams, the placing of these guns in advanced position to support the Infantry attack was largely due.'
