Military Cross 'For gallantry and devotion to duty. Lieut Marshall has served with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force on Gallipoli, in Egypt and in France, and has always carried out his duties in a gallant and capable manner. As a Battalion Transport Officer, during the March offensive, he showed continuous gallantry in taking supplies of food and ammunition right up to the front line. All the roads were under machine gun
fire, and it was mainly owing to Lieut Marshall's fine personal example, in himself taking all transport to the forward dumps that the chain of supplies was maintained.'
