Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When the front line was being pushed forward on to the high ground, this officer found that the advance was
held up by an enemy machine gun strong post. He immediately distributed his men, and, attacking very skillfully, drove out the enemy with loss and captured the machine gun. The weather was very bad and the ground very heavy, but his coolness and determination encouraged his men to overcome their fatigue and press on.'
