Military Medal 'East of Ypres on the 4th October 1917 this stretcher bearer displayed the greatest courage and extraordinary devotion to duty. During the attack on and subsequent consolidation of, the Red Line, he performed all his duties in a very gallant manner, being untiring in his efforts to succour the wounded in spite of very heavy shell fire. After all his Company casualties had been cleared he went forward toward the Blue Line through heavy barrage fire and assisted in bringing back the wounded. His untiring devotion and magnificent courage were an extraordinary example to others.'
