Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For most conspicuous gallantry near Crevecoeur, on 5th October, 1918, during a minor operation in establishing bridgeheads across the Canal de I'Escaut. When his platoon came suddenly under heavy machine gun fire he immediately, with a complete disregard of danger, engaged two enemy machine guns with such effect that his platoon was able to reach the trench. Subsequently, when the platoon was
heavily counter attacked, and had to withdraw, he remained behind and covered the withdrawal.'
