Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack. He carried messages several times over ground swept by machine gun fire. After the capture of an enemy position on another occasion he did splendid work in consolidating the captured ground. He showed great courage and determination.'
