Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. He led four machine guns forward through a heavy barrage, and though suffering heavy casualties amongst his teams he succeeded in bringing all his guns into action in support of the advancing infantry. He maintained communication about the forward situation which was of great value, and was cool, capable, and determined throughout.'
