Posted to G Company, 17th Infantry Reinforcements, and embarked on board HMNZT 'Pakeha', Wellington, 23 September 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 18 November 1916 and posted to 5th (Reserve) Battalion, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, Sling Camp, Salisbury Plain.

Proceeded overseas to France, 8 January 1917. Marched in to New Zealand Infantry and General Base Depot, Etaples, France, 9 January 1917.

Taken on strength, A Company, 3rd Battalion, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 8 February 1917.

Admitted to No 3 New Zealand Field Ambulance, 18 March 1917 (influenza); admitted to New Zealand Divisional Rest Station, 22 March 1917; admitted to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 29 March 1917 (bronchitis); admitted to No 35 General Hospital, Calais, 10 April 1917; transferred to No 1 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 25 April 1917.

Admitted to No 51 General Hospital (Venereal Disease Section), Etaples, 11 May 1917, and discharged, 19 May 1917; attached to New Zealand Infantry and General Base Depot, Etaples, 20 May 1917.
