'On the nights 21st/22nd and 22nd/23rd August near Puisieux. Ammunition transport arriving at the Battery came under heavy shell fire. By his coolness, courage and personal example he assisted his officers to overcome a dangerous and difficult situation. He has had a long and continuous service, and his coolness and bravery has made him a great assistance to his Officers.'
