Enlisted with rank of Lieutenant and posted to New Zealand Army Service Corps, 8th Reinforcements, Trentham Camp, Upper Hutt, 9 September 1915. Proceeded overseas from Wellington on board HMNZT 'Willochra', 10 October 1915.

Disembarked Suez, Egypt, 18 December 1915.

Marched in and posted to No 3 Company, New Zealand Army Service Corps, Zeitoun Camp, 20 December 1915. Transferred to No 2 Company, New Zealand Army Service Corps, Moascar Camp, 22 March 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 9 April 1916.

Admitted to No 1 New Zealand Field Ambulance, in the field, 9 May 1915; transferred to 12th Casualty Clearing Station, 17 May 1916 (dyspepsia); discharged and rejoins unit, 29 May 1916.

Transferred to No 3 Company, New Zealand Army Service Corps, 11 July 1916.

Admitted to New Zealand Convalescent Home for Officers, Brighton, 9 October 1916; admitted to 2nd London General Hospital, Chelsea, 16 October 1916 (Defective Heart Action).

Commenced return to New Zealand from London on board SS 'Rotorua', 17 November 1916.

Arrived New Zealand, 8 January 1917.

Discharged from the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and absorbed into the establishment of the New Zealand Garrison Artillery, Auckland Division, with the rank of Lieutenant, 20 June 1917.
