Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He went out into "No Man's Land" in daylight with one man to reconnoitre a new enemy work which he had
observed, and found 5 of the enemy holding a snipping post. He and his comrades at once attacked the post, killed one of the enemy, and captured the remainder.
He set a magnificent example of courage and initiative to his comrades.'
