Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack. He led his platoon splendidly, bombing enemy posts, clearing saps, and assisting the advance of the next platoon. In the enemy counter-attack next day he was knocked down by the burst of a shell, but jumped on the parapet, followed by his men, and rushed the enemy with bombs. He showed fine courage and brilliant leadership.'
