Military Medal 'During the attack on Messines 7th June 1917, the enemy placed a barrage behind our advancing troops. Pte Lyall who is a stretcher bearer went repeatedly through this barrage searching for and carrying back wounded men. He kept this up all through heavy shell fire and the heat of the day even though practically exhausted, and throughout set a fine example of personal bravery and devotion to duty.'
