Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 12th October 1917 during the attack on Belle Vue Spur, some of the troops worked to a flank to avoid the enemy's wire, and overcome a garrison of his concrete ?Pill Boxes?. Private Louden was on duty as a Company Runner, and was asked to find where this section had established itself and to convey messages to its leader. This he did at great personal risk, fearlessly working across nearly a mile of shell stricken country, nearly all of which was under observation and fire by the enemy's snipers and machine gunners. Despite these unfavourable circumstances, Private Louden set a
splendid example of bravery and devotion to duty and rendered very valuable service.'
