Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field South east of Bapaume on the 30th August 1918. This soldier, during the fighting from Bapaume to Bancourt, acted as Company runner, and displayed great courage throughout the action in carrying important messages to and from the platoons in the lead of the attack to Company H.Q., under heavy shell fire, and intense machine gun and rifle fire. His conduct throughout the action was worthy of the highest praise. By his great bravery and cheerful devotion to an arduous duty, he set a splendid example to all, during this and the succeeding two days.'
