Military Medal 'Gallantry and devotion to duty. On 28th August in the operations near Bapaume he was in charge of a power buzzer station at a battalion headquarters. He displayed great courage in maintaining the base line under very heavy fire, and as a result of his determined efforts several important messages were transmitted which materially assisted the operations. Again on the night of 11th September near Havrincourt Wood he made his way through heavy shell fire to bring fresh accumulators which were urgently required and without which the successful work of his station at a battalion headquarters on the following morning could not have taken place. As a result of his determined courage important messages were transmitted during the attack when all other means of communications had failed.'
