'Operations South of Solesmes on night of 12/13th October 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the night of 12/13th October this NCO repeatedly led stretcher parties carrying wounded through the village of Viesly over roads which were at the time under continual heavy shell fire. His coolness and unflagging energy set a magnificent example to the bearers and contributed to the saving of several lives.'
